"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge."
- Albert Einstein
I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach your child art!
There will be many projects experienced during the year. The grade lessons section of the website will be updated monthly with a brief overview of what your child will be learning in art. Occasionally some projects may change or new ones added due to class cancellations (field trips, programs, etc..). All projects go home after they are done with them except for their sketchbook and artwork chosen for the spring art show. We do hang a few up around school but students will get them back to take home.
A.R.T Classroom Rules
Students have the chance to earn one dojo point per art class given how well they follow each A.R.T rule.
Art Curriculum:
The Art Curriculum is based on the NC Standard Course of Study. It is my hope that the art room will be a productive and inspiring place where your child will...
- Learn to safely use a variety of art materials and tools
- Learn about the history of art and be able to recognize great works of art.
- Have art as a base for discussion.
- Be lifelong appreciators and creators of art.
- Understand how knowledge of art helps them in daily living and make connections between art and other subject areas.
- Have personal experiences in art.
- Learn to think critically and creatively
- Be able to use imagination, solve problems, and be confident.
- Show respect for other's art.
- Be a risk taker and open minded about all kinds of art.
- Create and have fun!
The content we will be covering will include drawing, painting, collage, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, and recycled art.
I look forward to getting to know your child while working with them each week. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

All students will create a sketchbook to use for notes, drawing practice, sub lessons, and occasional free drawings completed when assignments are finished early. Students will take sketchbooks home at the end of the year.
Kindergarten:
Throughout the year Kindergarten students will be working on their art book learning about the Elements of art and Principles of design such as the primary colors, patterns, texture, etc. This book will be taken home at the end of the school year with the exception of art made for special occasions (holidays, programs, etc)
